Makhzan is a curated directory of Arabic script type and design resources (including studios,
designers, archives, type foundries and more) from across the region and the diaspora.
It was originally developed by Sina Fakour,
at the Arabic Type Unit (ATU)
of the American University of Beirut, as a pedagogical tool to support students exploring the rich and layered world of
Arabic typography. What began as a classroom resource gradually evolved into this publicly
accessible website, with the aim of sharing the growing database more broadly with students, designers,
researchers, and anyone interested in Arabic script and type history.
This is an ongoing and evolving project. While we do our best to ensure the accuracy
of the information, some entries may contain imprecisions. If you spot anything
that seems incorrect, or if you know of resources that should be included, please
don’t hesitate to get in touch via the form.
Your contributions and feedback are always welcome.
