Horouf is a directory of the Arabic script as it is encoded in Unicode. It covers every character in the Arabic script blocks, with its name, code point, contextual forms and usage, the languages and countries that use it, and links to related resources.
Horouf is developed at the Arabic Type Unit (ATU) of the American University of Beirut as an accessible reference tool for researchers, type designers and anyone interested in or working with the Arabic script on digital devices. It is part of Sawad, a platform dedicated to Arabic type.
This is an ongoing, evolving project. While we do our best to ensure the information is accurate, some entries may contain errors. If you spot anything that seems incorrect, please don't hesitate to get in touch. Your contributions and feedback are always welcome.
